Irony is fantastic, idiot zealot of an AG gets caught in bed

I just heard about this,  The AG of Alabama, an idiot named Troy King who tried to outlaw homosexuality and sex toys.  And if you need to ask, he was caught in bed with another man and is a republican.

Why does it seem like all of the anti-homosexual zealots are homosexual?  You have Larry Craig (and his super tuber...), Pastor Haggard, Mayor Jim West from Spokane.

So the details of this particular case are kind of amusing (h/t to Wonkette).  As I mentioned he strove really didn't like homosexuals:

The existence of the Gay/Lesbian alliance on this campus is an affront to the state of Alabama, its citizenry, this diversity and its students. However, it is also an outrage to compel those students with both moral and religious objections to the activities and ideas espoused by this organization to contribute money, via student fees, to subsidize these activities.

or sex toys:

Worst Legal Ruling:  By refusing to hear the appeal in the case of Sherri Williams v. Attorney General of Alabama, the Supreme Court basically upheld Alabama's ban on sex toys in the state, which prohibits the distribution of "any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs for anything of pecuniary value." Williams has fought for Alabamans to be able to buy dildos, vibrators, and other toys for eight years, and says she will continue to: "My motto has been they are going to have to pry this vibrator from my cold, dead hand." Former gubernatorial candidate Loretta Nall is proposing that people send sex toys to Troy King, the state attorney general of Alabama, to encourage him not to waste money prosecuting sex-toy shops.

He was found by his wife in bed with a former homecoming king from Troy University (Troy King, and a king from Troy U...)

Aren't conservative hypocrites great..., oh and this hombre was a leading contender to be governor of Alabama in 2010, I don't think that will be happening now...

Agreed.  This is a very sad story for everyone involved.  I can't take pleasure in any of it.

Internalized homophobia (2.00 / 5)

is a bad thing.

I pity him, but I don't feel sorry for him.  I'll enjoy seeing all his RW "friends" turn their backs on him.

Totally uncalled for.

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?

As a native Alabamian ..... (2.00 / 3)

they will castigate him and he will become persona non grata in no time flat.

Homos are not well tolerated in 'Bama.

As an aside, I'm a bit jealous, I never had a King from Troy, but I did get to see the Ironman statue in Birmingham once.  Now that was nice!

Well... (2.00 / 1)

In all honestly, I feel sorry for this guy.  Not only is it awful for your sexuality to be public fodder, but the combination of community and family (and other sources, I'm sure) disapproval of homosexuality led him to be such an incredible hypocrite.

Let's face it.  Not everyone has the courage to be him/herself in the face of such hate.

So, yes, I feel sorry for him.

No way. No how. No McCain.

Re: Well... (2.00 / 2)

I can't feel good about his downfall, but I can't feel very sorry for him either. Let's face it, he did more to foster that hatred than most. He's reaping what he sowed. Unfortunately, many others have had to suffer from  his actions, as well.

That is what is so wrong with these hypocrites. Others suffer for their lies.

Vitter was one of the leading opponents to condom distribution in Africa to stop the spread of Aids. Who knows how many people died because of that? Yet, all this time he was a patron of prostitutes. The very people he claimed to despise. What's his face out west was just as bad. The preacher who aroused so much hate against gays and then got outed for frequenting a gay prostitute and doing meth. Larry Craig was another of these hypocrites who ranted against the evil gays and was then outed by his own actions.

Please don't ask me to forgive their hypocrisy. I will mourn for their humanity and their families at the same time as I criticize them for being hypocrites.

Re: Well... (2.00 / 2)

Please don't misunderstand me.  I'm not an apologist for his positions or actions as a politician any more than I am for Vitter's or Craigs.

I'm thinking of this in an apolitical way.  I'm sure there are MANY people out there who are NOT politicians, who ARE gay, and who act hateful toward homosexuality either to fit in with their bigoted family/community or because they truly believe their own sexuality is an awful thing and lash out at others.  I feel sorry for the upbringing that led people to hate themselves so much.

Now, his political positions...well, that's just bad.  But at the root of all of that must be something fairly traumatic and conflicted, and it's for THAT that I feel sorry for him.

Re: Well... (2.00 / 2)

I don't feel sorry for him at all. People like this make it harder for people who don't "fit in"
These people directly or indirectly support Gay bashing. He really got what he deserved and maybe a little more.
